November 17 - Tour of Paris

I was suddenly woken up at 3:00 a.m. by mom! She turned on the lights and just started reading. I was so anoyed because I was sound asleep. It's bad enough that Harley doesn't let me sleep. I was so looking forward to catching up on my sleep on this trip.

Breakfast
The hotel offered a free breakfast daily on the first floor from 7:15 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Or, you can order to your room the night before. They had a nice set up with lunch meat, cheeses, croissants, jams, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereal, coffee, and juices. I had no idea that mom wouldn't want to go to breakfast, so at 9:00 a.m., I went by myself. Surprisingly, it was busy. I brought her back a chocolate croissant and glass of milk.

Paris Hilights Tour (The City of Light)
I scheduled our tour for the afternoon because I figured that we would have jet lag. I was so hot the day before in my pea coat, so I bought a cute, lighter coat for $5 Euros next door. Then, the guy at our hotel desk told me that it was going to be cold, and it was. Our tour was about 4 hours long, ad covered all of the major highlights including La Madeleine, Opera, Vendome Square, the Eiffel Tower, Ritz Carlton, Concorde, Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Invalides, the world-famous Louvre Museum and the Notre Dame Cathedral. We also visited Montmartre, and the Sacre-Coeur basilica.

We wished that we had more time to spend in Montmartre, which is the artsy part of Paris. The two ladies on our tour didn't like to stop anywhere. They were from the South and the other lady was from Japan, so, it was just a small group. I picked up a souvenir for Sam by the Eiffel tower. Afterwards, we were starving, so after we were dropped off at our hotel, we walked around the corner to Alberts and shared a Margherita pizza and salad with corn, carrots, cucumber, and beets. Mom was freaked out about the beets, but I told her to try it. You have to try something new when you are in a new region. She refused at first, but then did, and liked it! We headed over to the mall that was across the street and went to C&A again as well as other stores. Mom bought some souvenirs and I bought a black, mini pleather skirt that cost $12 Euros. As we walked back to the hotel, mom bought roasted chestnuts on the street corner and I got a waffle dusted with powdered sugar from an unfriendly vendor. When we returned to the hotel, I checked e-mail and mom read her book.
